Principal's Message

H.E. McCracken Middle School

Lindsey R. Skirtich, Principal

Pamela Maddox, Assistant Principal

Casey Swofford, Assistant Principal

Dear Parents,

As we navigate this journey, we know there will be questions. We are doing our best and will continue to work hard to support your students and your family. We plan to continue instruction with teachers communicating with you and your student via Google Classroom. We are in this together and plan to do whatever it takes!

Several Specifics:

If your student does not have home access to internet or a cell phone, reach out to and we will work to assist you.

Meals: The district is providing breakfasts and lunches that will be available for the duration of the shutdown: 7:15-8:45 a.m. for breakfast and 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. for lunch.  Here’s the list of 11 pick-up locations:  Battery Creek High, Beaufort High, Beaufort Middle, Bluffton High, Hilton Head Island High, James J. Davis Early Childhood Center, Okatie Elementary, Red Cedar Elementary, St. Helena Elementary, Whale Branch Early College High and the Port Royal YMCA.

School eLearning protocols are in place. Students should log on to their computers each day to complete assignments. Teachers will have virtual office hours each day during which time students can receive assistance. Those office hours are located on the Google Spreadsheet attached, along with teacher emails, etc.

Assignments will be posted each day by 8 a.m. If students do not have an assignment available, they should contact their teacher. Students will need to complete the eLearning assignments by 10 p.m. each day.

Additionally, if you have forgotten something at the school, we will host a drive-thru service on Tuesday 3/17 from 10:00am-12:00pm and Wednesday, 3/18, from 2:00pm-4:00pm. We will need to know the specific location of the item and a description and a locker number, if applicable. If you email us ahead of time, we can help triage this. See names and numbers below.

Again, here is my cell phone number. If you need me, call me.

Welcome to HEMMS!
I am so excited and honored to serve as your principal. Originally, I am from Ohio and this is my 15th year in Beaufort County. I have worked as a teacher at HE McCracken and Bluffton High School, an assistant principal at HE McCracken and May River High School, and now I am back (for the third time) at McCracken as the principal. As a leader, I value all students, parents, and teachers, as well as the opportunity to get to know and understand their needs. I seek to make connection with students by giving them opportunities to give feedback and I believe in opening the lines of communication with parents and faculty.  I could not be more excited about the opportunities and possibilities this year and I invited you to come in and see all of the wonderful things we are doing at HEMMS.

Thank you for your support!
Mrs. Skirtich
