Seventh Grade

Welcome To The Seventh Grade

The Marshmallow Challenge: Students were given 18 minutes to create the tallest free standing structure using 20 pieces of spaghetti, 1 yard of string, 1 yard of tape, and 1 jumbo marshmallow. The students had to make sure their marshmallow was at the top of their structure. The kids worked great together, by the end of this fierce competition the tallest structure came in at 34 inches.

The Human Number Line: This week in Ms. Carsey's math class we have been studying rational numbers, and their placement on a number line. Before introducing students to the additive inverse, the students had to make a human number line. Each student was given a card with a rational number on it (i.e. 1, 10/5, -4, |100|). Without talking the kids had to order themselves from lease to greatest to make a human number line.  (NS.1 Extend prior knowledge of operations with positive rational numbers to add and to subtract all rational numbers and represent the sum or difference on a number line.)
